Clock Pony

Original character, Donut Steel!

Later I will, eventually, make two additional drawings. But for now I just submit this one alone.
I did this for the theme of a group I'm in, which is about OC's

Her name is,... um dunno. Haven't figured out one yet. Perhaps something in latin related to time...



This is my take on designing an original character. Her color scheme is inspired from Dr. N.Tropy from Crash Bandicoot and her personality is based on a character I have created years ago for a futuristic setting (apart from ponies I'm a big sci-fi-fan). She is not supposed to be a character that lifes an everyday live in Equestria like everypony else, nor is she an self insert or something. I designed her as an antagonist similar to Discord, but the other way around. That's why she has some more details on her and is generally rather powerful in some ways. I even made up a story/bio/personality for her. I had in mind that if I wrote a fanfic or there was a movie or so, she would be the big bad in it.

It is far from perfect and surely has some logical holes. Also consider that english is not my first language! I may get many words right, but the way how I build sentences is rather poor.


When she was a filly her parents were archeologics and artifact hunters in a "Indiana Jones"- manner. They were traveling around the world while she was sitting at home with her,... dunno, babysitter or so. Over the time the parents brought more and more magical artifacts home. She, bored alone at home, started to inspect the artifacts and did stuff with them.

When she grew older, like into a teenager, she started to get interested about how she could use these artifacts, or to be more exact, the magic residing in them. Afterall she is an earth pony and everpony else in her family, but her granny, is a unicorn. Around this time clocks also became interesting for her. They are like the only (or one of few) fully non-magic objects that perform complex tasks. For an earth pony interesting, considering she has no magic, and has to do many things with the help of her hooves.

Over the years she spent more and more time with the clocks. She tried to make them do other things than just showing the time. But the springs in them are far to weak to spend enough power for more than just spinning a few watch hands. (Are non electronic watches powered by springs? I don't know.) Steam power, and everything better than that, has never been invented in Equestria. (The trains are magic powered ). So she started to put the magical artifacts of her parents into her machines. And it was a full success. (She is not a steam punk pony, but a magic punk pony. )
For an earth pony she has a very good understanding for magic. She always sees it from outside the box and is not blinded from it because she isnt born with it. Her ability to use the magic of the artifacts and the ability to integrate them in into, more and more complex getting, machinery improved quickly. And all of it thanks to clocks, which she also got obessed with.

She started to get a strange behaviour where she always had to look at the time. This was caused, on one hoof because she spend most of her lifetime alone, and time was the only thing that changed without her influence. And on the other hoof because one of the artifacts greatly reduces the speed of her aging which caused her to easily loose the track of time (a calender would be more useful, actually. But it doesn't move or change ).
She is 3 to 4 for times as old as she looks like. The age reducing artifact and a few others are sealed in a tank on her back, close to the body. It is very useful as it gives her more time to improve and learn.
The artifact she wears on her necklace is actually useless. She chose to wear it as a decoy and just because it looks good . (When I would write a fanfic about her, the hero would manage to tear the necklace off of her and think that he succeeded, only to realize that it was just useless . I love antagonists that plan everything ahead.)

When she grew older she found, that magic powered machines have a bigger future than just magic alone. Over many past millenia the technology has improved only very slightly. She started to produce machines for daily use. But the royal police (or something like that) started to track all her complex machines down and destroyed them. Additionally the production of more of those "devilish" and highly complicated machines, that run on very very raw magic, has been prophited.
"Very raw magic"? As she improved she got a deeper and better understanding of magic. While unicorns and normal magical apparatii use very "developed" magic (since ancient times predefined magical spells and such), she actually went down to the core of it and used it like electric energy (Not the same but similar).
Soon she found out why her machines were prophited. Celestia, and later Luna too, control the magical flows, or so, in Equestria.
When somepony actually uses the core raw magic for machines, they can't control it anymore.

Saddened and angry because of the prophibition of the "Technological Advancement" she retreated into the woods for a new super secret project:
ANTI MAGIC!
She made many, many tests. But sooner or later she found a way to disable magic in an area. It works similar to audio waves, where you can create counter waves in order to neutralize the orignal ones. And since bigger is better she soon constructed an anti magic transmission tower disguised as a clock tower.
She turns it on and BOOM!

All Unicorns lost their ability to do magic.
All Pegasi suddenly fell from the sky.
And all Earth Ponies lost their connection to the earth. Which reduced the fertility of the ground everywhere. (Lol, they also have to loose something )

She realized that magic exists in places that she never thought of it would. Seeing some pegasii fall down she turned the transmitter back off again only to turn it on slightly later. She switched between "on" and "off" for a while until she could be sure that everypony is save on the ground. She never really wants to harm anypony afterall.

As a clever pony that she is, the anti magical waves only affect "developed" magic. Her raw magic using machines are completely unaffected by this.

Another unwanted effect was, that Celestia and Luna slowly started to fade and disappear. As purely magical creatures the transmitter killed the godesses pretty much off. They did not fully "die" though. As godesses, they were prepared for a situation where magic could suddenly disappear (I haven't thought about how but I just don't want to kill them outright ). They couldn't do anything, but wait for the magic to return, though.

All ponies of Equestria didn't know what happened. For a long time they believed that the magic vanished because of the disappeareance of the princesses. They never knew what really happened. (I have no explanation about why day and night continues to change, or why the weather works on its own, though. Let's say, the nature took over it, and that's it )


This part is somewhat based on the "Ages" of "Dwarf fortress"

The years went by and the ponies started to adapt to their new magicless lifes. New technologies have been created in a very short timespan because the basics were already here, but they had to change their energy source from simple magic to wind-, water, or hoofpower. For steam power they would require far more time to invent it though.
Another thing that happened, was that all fantasy creatures started to disappear too. The Everfree forest turned very calm and peaceful. The less a creature was based on real life the more magic was required to keep it in existence.
The colorful memories of the magical past slowly started to fade in the heads of the pony population. They weren't even sure if something like magic existed at all. Creatures like dragons and parasprites only existed as legends in books. (Sentinent creatures like griffons inexplainable stay though)

(I think I made them forget everything so quickly because this part is also based on a dream. And memories from dreams fade away like deleted data on a hard drive. It is still here, but gets overwritten with normal thoughts. You can access them though. But it gets harder. Hmm...)


But Twilight had an Idea! With the disappeareance of the seemingly chaotic and random magic and all legendary creatures she realized that there is, perhaps, too much harmony. Everything is so boring and works on its own. Nopony goes outside. There are no conflicts, no apologies after that, and no new friendships.
(I haven't really thought out much about a magic lacking world.)

Does she have to create hate and dispute in order to awake Discord again?

I don't know. I didn't think much farther than that . I guess Discord saves the day, but also realizes that neither too much chaos nor too much harmony are any good. So he stops trying to create large amounts of chaos and works together with the princesses in order to keep chaos and harmony balanced.
The only loser is the technological advancement. It has to be held down as much as possible in order to keep the balance forever.


Bittersweet ending?



I don't know what my OC pony is going to do after her clock tower got swallowed and disabled by a huge spiderwhale with wings created by Discord.
The reason why Discord was not affected by the transmission tower is because he is based on the chaotic raw magic my OC used and which is immune to "harmonic" counter waves.

This might also be an explanation of why Discord is far more powerful than the regal sisters. First there was chaos and then someone came and ordered, arranged and "harmonized" it. Which means that the sisters magic is build on top of Discords magic.
